Instructions and Help about Vawa cases approved

Hi, I'm Melody Bryan from the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. This is Katie Butler from the Victim and Witness Assistance Program at the prosecutor's office. We are extremely blessed to share that our office has been recommended for funding through the Violence Against Women Act for the third year in a row. This grant has been instrumental in supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault cases in Wayne County. We have the privilege of meeting with many of these victims and survivors, where we listen to their stories and give them a voice in the process. Katie Butler plays a vital role in these meetings and serves as the first point of contact for the victims. She facilitates communication between myself and the survivors, ensuring they receive the support they need. Apart from offering emotional support, Katie also assists in connecting survivors with community resources. This can include transportation services, food pantries, counseling services, and addressing any unique barriers they may be facing. Our goal is to find solutions and provide support to families who are struggling through the court process. Meeting with survivors of domestic violence is incredibly meaningful to us. We not only learn about their experiences but also provide guidance and assistance throughout the legal proceedings. We continue to be there for them even after the case concludes, offering resources and support whenever needed. It is important to remember that our purpose is to help these individuals navigate through the difficult journey they are facing. We strive to ensure they gain a better understanding of their situation and encourage them to seek the necessary help. We have had the privilege of meeting extraordinary individuals who have overcome significant challenges in their lives, and we are eagerly looking forward to continuing our work in 2018.
