Hi I'm melody Bryan from the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office this is Katie Butler from the victim and witness assistance program at the prosecutor's office and we are extremely blessed to share that our office has for the third year in a row been recommended for funding through the Violence Against Women Act this is a grant we've been receiving for three years we are now recommended for the full amount of funding and we see how it's making a difference in Wayne County especially for survivors of domestic violence as well as sexual assault cases we have the privilege to meet with many of these victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and and we are we very much enjoy meeting with them Katie Butler is very involved in these meetings and victim contact she is the first voice that they will hear oftentimes when the case gets started and she facilitates the contact between myself and the victims and survivors where again we meet with these victims on a regular basis and we learned so much about them mainly prthem information but listen to what they have to say and give them a voice in the process as these cases go through prosecution in the court system one of Katie's main roles is to help prthem with community resources and that varies from transportation services to food pantries as well as counseling services and and sometimes some very creative types of barriers that they're facing we try to help find solutions and prsupport to families who are struggling through the process at the court process which is not to go through it really means so much to meet with these survivors of domestic violence to really talk to these individuals and to learn who they are...
